About Us
Thornhill Family Smiles (formerly Dr. Larry Lerner) is home to your Thornhill dentist that has been serving the local community at this location for over 25 years. Dr. Lerner has built a very successful dental practice by having a compassionate approach to patient comfort and working with patients to educate them on treatments so we can decide what works together. In 2022, Dr. Yonit Levin joined the practice and together they work closely to provide patients with the highest standard of care.
We believe in creating a calm collaborative and positive environment in which our patients can feel at ease. The warmth of our team has allowed us to create strong and trusting relationships over the years with our patients. Our hygiene team consists of five hygienists.

Dr. Larry Lerner
General Dentist
Dr. Larry Lerner graduated from the University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in Science, followed by his degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He was an Instructor at George Brown College of Dental Hygiene and was Vice president of the Reena Foundation for developmentally handicapped children.
Dr. Lerner is a member in good standing in the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Ontario Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, Toronto Crown, and Bridge Study Club.
Dr. Lerner, your Thornhill dentist, has built a very successful dental practice by having a compassionate approach to patient comfort and believing that both patient and dentist should decide on treatment. He joined 123Dentist because of their commitment to continuing education.
His hobbies include over 200 logged scuba dives; horseback riding; downhill skiing and golf. He is an avid fisherman and gardener.
Dr. Maria Sqapi - DDS
General Dentist
Dr. Maria Sqapi began her academic career at Western University in London, Ontario, and achieved her Bachelor of Medical Sciences. She went on to pursue a Master of Science degree at the University of Toronto. Her passion for healthcare led her to pursue her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Toronto. During her time in dental school, she published in the Ontario Dentist Journal on the identification and management of autism spectrum disorder in the dental setting.
Dr. Sqapi continues to advance her knowledge and skillset in various aspects of dentistry through ongoing continuing education courses through Spear Education and the American Academy of Clear Aligner Therapy (AACA). She also attended the Minec Implant Center in Tijuana, Mexico, where she performed complex extractions (including wisdom teeth extractions) for underserved communities. She has also completed several hours of continuing education in implant restoration and cosmetic dentistry.
She is an Invisalign provider and is certified to provide nitrous oxide for her patients. She is committed to ensure her patients are comfortable on the dental chair and leave satisfied with their care.
During her spare time, she enjoys discovering new restaurants and cafes and travelling with her son, husband, and cockapoo, Simba! Dr. Sqapi looks forward to seeing you and your smile soon!

Dr. Maria Sqapi is an incredible dentist and the best I ever have had. She is caring, very professional and her chair-side manner is sweet and friendly. Something unique for Dr. Maria is that she brings peace and calmness to patient with her confidence and skills even during complicated procedures. She patiently explains the procedure and responds to questions precisely and with confidence.
I had fillings and root canals done by her that were pain-free and with great long-term performance. Dr. Maria took accurate impressions and fixed my bite with implant crowns. The last, crown supported on two implants perfectly fitted and now I can chew better and they look all natural.

After seeing a few different dentists in past 2 years as a newcomer to Canada, I can finally say I’ve found the right team.
I had an overnight emergency and, even as a new patient, the wonderful front desk staff squeezed me in immediately.
